At Ziraatbank branches, POS terminals become a bill payment point

Istanbul,
23 August 2005 – Banksoft, a leading provider of card-based payment solutions,
announced today that Ziraatbank started to use its merchant POS terminals for
bill collection. Telecom, GSM and utility payments can be made at these
counters where the merchants use the POS terminal to collect the payments and
provide customers with a receipt.
The
POS terminals are loaded with additional software for the specific usage and
display the menu items related to the application. Both dial-up and GPRS-based
Sagem Monétel POS terminals are used in the system.
“Bill
collection at the merchant is a big hit in reducing branch traffic. The
merchants are compensated for the service they provide to the bank,” said
Ziraatbank officials.
“POS
terminal is an important cost saving solution for the banks. We are working
closely with our customers on broadening the services that can be offered on
POS terminals to further reduce the cost of the financial institutions. Sagem
Monétel EFT Smart series are very suitable for this application with their
capability to accommodate low-cost barcode readers that can be connected via
USB port, which will further reduce transaction times for bill payments,” said
Taner Aktuna, POS products manager at Banksoft.
